6 Essential Apps to Download on WearOS

If you have a smartwatch powered by Android, it either runs WearOS 4 or WearOS 5. However, both of the software versions come packed with some pretty useful apps that make life a lot easier for you. You can use these apps every day to add more convenience to your life.

I’ve been using a OnePlus Watch 2, which I got on the day of its release. It is running on WearOS 4, though OnePlus has promised a major update to WearOS 5 and up to three years of security updates. Here are some apps that I have been using and find them very useful.

Reminder!

When it comes to staying connected to the apps on the go, having and a reliable internet connection is crucial. With Xfinity Internet, you can enjoy fast and seamless connectivity. Plus, its nationwide wifi hotspots never let you get disconnected. Contact Xfinity customer service to find out more!

Google Maps

If your car doesn’t have an infotainment system, and you need directions to go somewhere, then it is difficult and dangerous to whip out your phone and open Google Maps. However, you can make things easier for yourself if you download Google Maps on your smartwatch.

This way, you can look at directions on your wrist rather than having to look at your phone constantly! So, among the essential apps to have on your smartwatch, Google Maps is definitely a must!

Spotify

Navigating through your music while you are driving, on a run, or in the gym can be annoying when you have to take out your phone every time. But not if you have Spotify installed on your smartwatch! You can change your music through your watch! It merely takes you a second to look at your watch and skip the current song.

Not only this, but you can also turn repeat on or off through your watch by scrolling down the screen where the song is playing. You can change the “repeat mode” and also turn the shuffle on or off. It doesn’t end here, you can access all your playlists by swiping left. You can scroll through your list of songs and play the one you like!

Strava

If you are a cycling enthusiast, then you should definitely download Strava on your smartwatch. It tracks your cycling activities and measures your distance traveled and the time it took you. Not only does it log all of your progress, but you can also share your stats with your friends on your social media.

However, you will be glad to know that Strava isn’t just useful for cycling, but you can use it to track other activities as well. These activities include running, swimming, walking, hiking, badminton, skiing, CrossFit, canoeing, and so on.

WhatsApp

WhatsApp has a dedicated version for WearOS too, which makes texting a lot easier without you having to take out your phone. You can read messages from your watch and depending on the size of your watch, you can send replies back as well. Not only that, but you can also record voice messages on your smartwatch too!

However, one thing that I didn’t understand with my OnePlus Watch 2 is why I can’t make calls on the watch and why I can’t receive them either. I’m hoping that OnePlus will give a solution to this soon. However, I find it very useful that I can read messages on my watch instantly I can either reply through a text back, voicenotes, or even emojis!

Gmail

I am the kind of person who reads his emails first thing in the morning. I have so much going on in my business that I need to stay on top of all my emails to never miss a thing. I always find it useful that WearOS has a dedicated Gmail app for smartwatches.

Now, every time I get a new email, I am alerted on my smartwatch. I also have the option to reply to emails through the watch, meaning I don’t have to open my phone or my laptop every time. So, if you wish to keep up to speed with all your emails, make sure that you install Gmail.

Google Home

If you have smart home devices, then you must download the Google Home app on your smartwatch. This way, you can control your devices from your wrist! You can play music, turn lights on or off, and a lot more.

Smart home devices already make things very convenient due to their automation but connecting them to your smartwatch makes things even easier!

A Bonus Tip

Some smartwatches come with an integrated Remote Camera app, but it is missing in other smartwatches. For instance, you can find it on a Pixel Watch, but it is missing in the OnePlus Watch 2. However, you can find third-party apps on the Play Store for a minimal price. Be sure to download one on your smartphone for easy-to-manage selfies!
